Dear Anton Pavlovich,

Hi. You’re one of my favorite people, living or dead. I just wanted to write because I think maybe you’d understand.

So when you were 24 and spitting up blood, did you feel how I felt when I was 21 and shitting out blood? And what were your bad times like? Were they like mine?

Yesterday I was compared to Varya. What are your favorite qualities about her?

It’s a hard afternoon for me, Anton Pavlovich. Lots of gas and lots of poop. I’m learning your plays like I never imagined, thanks to Yuri. Today we started at 3:00, it’s now 7:43, and we’re about halfway through act 2. It’ll be a long night, but nice as well.

I wanted to say so much to you, but I can’t think of it. I just needed someone near me that I loved that knew what chronically ill was like.

Thanks for being a doctor and thank you for being a writer. I hope I turn out to be as good of a human being as you.

Love,

Amy Elise Gorelow

P.S. What’s the most important thing in life? (I’ll check your plays, but also if you want to tell me in person, I’ll be dreaming tonight at probably between 2 a.m. and 8:15 a.m. EST.)

Hope you’re at peace.
